How Vikings' Vengeance works
The strategy on this page is community opinion from player guides, not game data. An R4 or R5 starts the event and Vikings attack alliance cities over 20 waves. Waves 7, 14 and 17 hit only members who are online, and waves 10 and 20 hit the alliance headquarters. After two failed defences, the Vikings stop attacking that city. You score for Vikings killed in your own city and in cities you reinforce. Every guide agrees on the core idea: troops killing Vikings earn points, and troops sitting at home behind a full garrison earn little or nothing. So the event rewards alliances that swap troops between cities rather than each member defending alone. When and how often it runs is on the data page.
What each member should do
Empty your city and keep your heroes
Leave your three strongest heroes in the Guard Station: their skills apply to the troops defending your city. Send the rest of your troops out to reinforce others. Troops left at home share the kills with your reinforcers and lower everyone's score.
Before the first waveSwap reinforcements in small groups
Pair up or form groups of three to six members and reinforce each other. kingshotmastery.com suggests mixing power levels in each group and says four reinforcers per city is usually enough.
1 to 2 hours beforeCover the online-only waves
These waves skip offline members, so the alliance can pour troops into the members who are online. kingshotmastery.com calls them the highest-scoring single waves.
Waves 7, 14 and 17Fill the headquarters
Your own city scores nothing on these waves; all points come from reinforcing. The headquarters has 15 reinforcement slots, so divide the garrison leader's rally capacity by 15 for each member's share. Wave 20 is the hardest and needs your strongest garrison leader.
Waves 10 and 20Send infantry first
- Vikings hit infantry first, then cavalry, then archers, so archers rarely get kills in normal waves. This site's Army calculator Vikings preset fills infantry, then cavalry, then archers.
- Kingshotmastery.com suggests 75% infantry and 25% cavalry for normal reinforcements, or all infantry if you are short of cavalry. If you cannot empty your city, send infantry and cavalry and keep archers at home.
- For headquarters waves, kingshotmastery.com suggests 90/10/0 for wave 10. For wave 20 it adds archers (35/15/50) only at the highest difficulty, and below difficulty 18 keeps 75/25/0 everywhere.
- Total infantry sent matters more than mixing troop tiers, according to kingshotmastery.com. The gap between high and middle ranks is mostly how much infantry each player deploys.
Heroes to lead your reinforcements
| Hero | Skill | At level 5 | Why |
|---|---|---|---|
| Chenko | Stand of Arms | Lethality +25% | Same joiners as Bear Hunt |
| Yeonwoo | On Guard | Lethality +25% | Same joiners as Bear Hunt |
| Amane | Tri-Phalanx | Attack +25% | Same joiners as Bear Hunt |
| Hilde | Noble Path | Attack +15%, Defence +10% | Attack with some defence |
| Gordon | Super Nutrients | Health +25% | Suggested as headquarters garrison lead |
Mistakes to avoid
- Do not heal during the event. Healed troops return home and take kills from your reinforcers. The KingShot Wiki allows one exception: recalling troops briefly after wave 9 to send them to the headquarters for wave 10.
- Do not reinforce members who still have a full garrison at home, for the same reason.
- Pull your marches out of cities that have failed twice and send them somewhere still under attack.
- Pick the difficulty from your last run and how many members will be online. kingshotguide.com warns there is no formula from power to difficulty. Dropping one level can give more total rewards than failing early at a higher one.
- Activate deployment capacity buffs before sending marches. kingshotmastery.com says this is the only buff confirmed to help.
Where guides disagree
- Headquarters troops: the KingShot Wiki's example uses only high-tier shield infantry plus some cavalry. kingshotmastery.com adds archers for wave 20 at the top difficulty.
- Reinforcement points: kingshotdata.com says reinforcing earns 50% of a wave's defence points while the city owner keeps the full amount. kingshotmastery.com describes kills shared in proportion to the troops in the garrison. Both agree spare troops at home cost your reinforcers points.
- Difficulty range: kingshotdata.com lists levels 1 to 20, while kingshotmastery.com gives advice for difficulty 21.
- Joiner heroes: kingshotmastery.com lists Bear Hunt attack heroes plus Zoe, Jabel and Saul, but says chance-based skills such as Jabel's do not stack, so send only one.
